TikTok users are seeing a new “dilly-dallying” trend this year, a report claims. With this trend, content creators are reportedly showing the art of doing nothing. To compare with last year’s “Brat Summer,” a trend that became popular with Charli XCX’s hit album Brat, showing creators having nights of reckless fun, the focus has now shifted in 2025. With last year’s trend, the social media platform witnessed creator tales of falling asleep in last night’s makeup, stumbling home after clubbing and impulsively getting tattoos. Now, as warmer months knock on the doors, the mood is reportedly evolving from non-stop hustling to a laid-back vibe—dilly-dallying — to replace the relentless pursuit of the next big trend.
What is TikTok’s new ‘Dilly-Dallying' trend
According to a report by the New York Post, this trend started when a user took to TikTok to share a video that encourages others to “dilly-dally.” This video has already recieved nearly a million views on the social media platform.
This post was shared by a user named Dasia Smith, known as @sweirdest on TikTok. Captioning the post, Smith wrote:
“You’re probably sitting at home like, oh I’m so bored, I’m so miserable. Girl. Go outside and dilly-dally.”The video quickly went viral on TikTok, prompting others to join the trend by either making a video using Smith’s original clip or using her sound in their own videos. These responses feature laid-back moments like leisurely walks, sunbathing, or engaging in crafts.
Joining the trend, one TikTok user shared her chill day strolling around Charleston and checking out flowers, jewelry and records. Another grabbed a blanket, went outside, and played with her dog in the grass, while another user showed themselves spending time painting with friends outdoors.
In a statement to Bustle, Smith explaining the trend said:
“For me, dilly-dallying means getting outside and just enjoying nothingness. It’s a freeing feeling being able to put a stop to everything and just make time to do nothing.”What users said about TikTok’s new ‘Dilly-Dallying' trend

“Thrift stores, parks, walks in nature, dilly-dallying in the garden, baking with the windows open… so many options!” a third user said.
Meanwhile, a fourth user pointed out:
“Remember when our moms used to just roam around plazas and we wanted to leave so bad. I completely understand now.”
