CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Kalamb police in Dharashiv district arrested two suspects on charges of murdering a woman who was at the centre of a row over a purported bid to implicate slain Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in an alleged rape case.Amid allegations about an attempt to divert attention by floating a theory that Deshmukh was murdered for raping a woman, the CID's special investigation team had recorded the woman's statement as part of their probe into the murder case. The woman's decomposed body was found Monday in her house at Dwarkanagari area of Kalamb, following which a case of murder was registered based on an advance postmortem examination opinion.A Dharashiv police officer, who did not wish to be named, told TOI, "The breakthrough came when one of the suspects disclosed the murder to one of their contacts, who, in turn, alerted Kalamb police. Later, a police team broke into the victim's house, which was locked from outside, and found her decomposed body." Doctors from the civil hospital were brought to the crime scene where an autopsy was performed," the Dharashiv police officer added.
