Survey of ‘encroached’ Buggamatam land begins
Tirupati: The survey of Buggamatam lands, allegedly encroached upon by former YSRCP minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and four others in Tirupati, has begun. The state endowments dept had served notices to the former minister on April 11, seeking his response to the encroachment charges of the lands adjacent to his residence in the temple city.
Buggamatam lands, located in the heart of Tirupati, are historically significant as they were said to be donated by the Chandragiri kings for religious and charitable purposes.
The dept accused Peddireddy and four others of encroaching an extent of 3.88 acres of Buggamatam land in survey numbers 261/1 and 261/2, and fencing off the area to restrict public access. The former minister dismissed the accusations and maintained that the said land was purchased by his younger brother and Tamballapalle MLA Peddireddy Dwarakanath Reddy.
The revenue dept and the endowments dept were initially supposed to take up the survey of the encroached lands earlier, but it was postponed due to a variety of reasons. On Saturday, district land survey inspector Chitti Babu, endowments dept assistant commissioner Ramakrishna Reddy and their teams carried out the survey at the ‘encroached' Buggamatam lands near the former YSRCP minister's residence. A detailed report will be submitted to the district collector and the endowments dept for further action based on the outcome of the survey.
