TIRUPATI: A man, who was unhappy about his daughter falling in love with a person belonging to another caste, hanged her to death and later poured petrol on her and burnt the body.
This shocking incident was reported at Kasapuram village in Guntakal mandal of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. According to Kasapuram police sub-inspector TP Venkataswamy, the accused, identified as Ramanjaneyulu, is a resident of Tilak Nagar locality near Guntakal town.
Ramanjaneyulu got three of his daughters married off and his fourth daughter, Bharati, was pursuing a bachelors degree in engineering.
She fell in love with one Yashwanth about five years ago but her family members opposed their plans to get married as they both belonged to different castes.
“Ramanjaneyulu and Bharati had frequent altercations over the issue and neither of them backed off. Following one such heated altercation on Tuesday evening when Bharati’s mother went to market, Ramanjaneyulu took her daughter to an isolated spot near a local temple at Kasapuram and forcibly hanged her to death from a tree”, the sub-inspector said.
The angry father brought down his daughter’s body from the tree and set the body ablaze with petrol which he brought along.
Kasapuram police who learnt about the incident visited the spot on Wednesday but by then the body was burnt to ashes. Police completed the post-mortem formalities at the spot where Bharati’s body was burnt. Ramanjaneyulu was taken into custody.
