Panaji: In a first for India, Goa police has developed an AI-powered investigation tool designed to trace the digital footprints of accused individuals using publicly-available data linked to mobile numbers, PAN cards, vehicle numbers, and other identifiers. The platform generates actionable intelligence to track the target.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday launched the Deep Trace AI-powered tool. Goa police tested it in cases like murder, and it provided good results, sources said. “Goa police have become the first in India to use Deep Trace. We have made it available to police to detect cybercrimes and other cases. It has already helped Goa police solve many cases during its test period,” said Sawant.
“This tool will not only help detect crime but also help prevent it,” said Sawant. The chief minister noted that Goa police have already started the Quick Pass mobile application.
“Goa police have started using all types of technology. This will help the police in the long run, as they will use these tools to fast-track investigations,” said Sawant, who added that in the future, Goa will be a model state in policing with the latest technology. “As Goa is a small state, we can use technology for crime detection and crime prevention,” said Sawant said.
DGP Alok Kumar said, “It is a proud moment for Goa police as we take another step towards transforming law enforcement with technology. This platform enables us to extract extendable intelligence from publicly-available sources using simple inputs like mobile numbers, PAN, or email addresses”.
Kumar mentioned that in the coming month, Goa police would launch a tenant verification app with real-time alerts, featuring both police and residents to improve preventive policing and address girl safety concerns. “Goa police remain committed to building a future-ready force, smart and scientific in every sense,” said Kumar.
SP (crime branch) Rahul Gupta stated that access to Deep Trace has been provided to officers up to the level of deputy superintendent of police.
