The Toronto Maple Leafs are struggling a bit this season, with many fans slamming its captain, Auston Matthews, for poor performance. Max Domi, one of the most popular players of the team, has also not been able to perform well, but now he has found himself involved in the Wayne Gretzky controversy as fans are trolling him. This all began when Max Domi revealed that Wayne Gretzky wished him on his birthday, which was on Sunday.

After the win on Sunday, Max Domi said, “He said make sure you shoot the puck I’ll be watching tomorrow. A guy like that, Wayne Gretzky is the greatest player of all time, and he’s why I play hockey."

He added, “To get a call like that, who is literally the best ever, on my birthday, was pretty special, even though it was a complete tap-in. Super grateful. He makes me so proud to be Canadian.”
Now, fans have trolled him for his statements about Wayne Gretzky. A fan wrote, “Domis time as a leaf should be over. He is a dud. Politics aside, a screw it, we are living in strange times.”
Another fan wrote, “Hockey players are so unbelievably out of touch with current events”, while a third fan wrote, “Lol Domi pisses me off with his media availabilities all the time he is arrogant and often going on about “ya I don’t care if I score” I get the point he’s trying to make, if you’re dominating otherwise - which he is not even close and takes ridiculous penalties constantly”.

Another user wrote, “Oh good the Gretzky Reputation Renewal Tour has begin”
Many fans also made sarcastic comments related to the whole controversy that Wayne Gretzky has found himself in as fans believe he did not support Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face Off. A fan wrote, ““So proud to be a Canadian” is reallllllllly funny”.
Max Domi has not reacted to the trolling that he has received from fans yet. While the star player did perform well against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost against the San Jose Sharks a few hours ago.
