NEW DELHI: As India prepare for their final group-stage match against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy, star batter Virat Kohli reflected on his roots, embracing the "Delhi da munda" spirit that has shaped his approach to cricket and life. The 36-year-old batting maestro, who will be playing his 300th ODI in Dubai on Sunday, spoke candidly about his identity and mindset.
"I don't know if I'm a prototypical Delhi da munda at all times," Kohli said in a video posted by the ICC on Instagram. "Being a Delhi da munda, the line in itself kind of means having a stress-free approach towards things. New experiences in life, went to a lot of places, so I wouldn't say that I'm out and out always a Delhi boy. In moments, I am, yes."

Kohli has been in sublime form, with his unbeaten century against Pakistan in Dubai propelling him to No. 5 in the ICC ODI rankings. As he prepares to join the elite club of Indian cricketers with 300 ODI appearances, Kohli remains focused on India’s immediate goal — securing the top spot in Group A.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who hails from the same city as Kohli, echoed his sentiments and emphasised the competitive spirit ingrained in Delhi cricketers.

"The Delhi spirit is very simple: try and win each time you walk onto the cricket field. That's what has been taught to us when we were growing up in Delhi," Gambhir said.
The high-stakes clash between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium will not only mark Kohli's historic milestone but also determine the semifinal matchups. Both teams are eyeing the top position in Group A, adding extra intensity to an already crucial encounter.
