Hull City are investigating an incident involving their club captain, Lewie Coyle, after disturbing footage emerged of him being led away from a street brawl. The altercation reportedly began at the Empress pub on Sunday evening and spilled into the streets. In the video, Coyle, 29, appears topless and is escorted away from the brawl by his younger brother Rocco, 18, as traffic is brought to a halt.
According to reports, the confrontation escalated outside the pub, which had been a gathering spot for Coyle and his older brother, a former professional boxer. A witness shared details with The Sun, explaining that the brawl involved several individuals, and Coyle was seen being pushed away from the scene by Rocco in front of a stationary bus, with the traffic halted in the city center.
Hull City has responded by launching an investigation into the footage, releasing the following statement: “Hull City is aware of a video currently circulating on social media and has launched an investigation into the matter. The club will refrain from making further comment until the investigation has been concluded.”
Coyle, who joined Hull City in 2020 from Fleetwood Town, has been with the club for five seasons. He was an integral part of the team’s promotion from League One during the 2020-21 season and has been crucial to Hull’s Championship survival. The team secured safety on the final day of the season with a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth, ensuring their place in the Championship for another season.
Hull fans and the public are awaiting further details regarding the investigation and the club’s stance on the incident. Coyle’s future at the club may be called into question depending on the findings of the investigation.
