As NFL fans speculate on Aaron Rodgers’ next move, the Pittsburgh Steelers may be setting the stage for a surprising quarterback-wide receiver reunion. With the recent trade of star receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, the Steelers have created a noticeable void in their offensive arsenal—one that’s reportedly drawing interest in a familiar name: Jets wideout Allen Lazard.
Julian Edelman suggests Aaron Rodgers is waiting for the right moment, not just the right team
While rumors swirl about Rodgers potentially landing in Pittsburgh, NFL legend Julian Edelman added fuel to the speculation during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
Edelman proposed that Rodgers might be biding his time, waiting for an injury to create a premium opportunity on a team of his choosing.
“Maybe he is just that much smarter where he’s probably going to land into, like, some team that gets a hurt quarterback that he likes,” Edelman explained, pointing to Rodgers’ pattern of avoiding off-season workouts and organized team activities. “You know, we saw his time with the Jets that he struggled with being on the same chemistry page with his receivers, which is developed through organized team activities, mini-camps, off-season, and you need those practices. So why is he doing it again?”

Steelers' wide receiver shake-up opens door for potential Lazard-Rodgers reunion
With George Pickens gone and DK Metcalf now on board, many expected the Steelers to stick with their revamped receiver duo. GM Omar Khan even dismissed Pickens trade rumors pre-draft, stating, “No. I mean, we’re glad we have George and DK here... Excited to have DK here, but no.” Yet two weeks later, the Steelers flipped Pickens to the Cowboys, triggering questions about who fills the WR2 role.
Enter Allen Lazard—Rodgers’ trusted former Packers and Jets teammate. Lazard is reportedly “in play to be traded to Pittsburgh,” according to ProFootballTalk. While Lazard may not match Pickens' explosiveness, his chemistry with Rodgers could be invaluable if Pittsburgh makes a push to sign the veteran QB.
The Steelers are well-positioned with future draft capital and a flexible cap situation to execute a potential deal. But without a clear signal from Rodgers, bringing in Lazard alone may not elevate the offense. His impact hinges heavily on whether Rodgers also joins the Steelers.
